Las Vegas Was Wonderful!

We had such a great time.  I met Craig at Tropicana on Friday morning.  To our delight they have really done a lot with the property.  A big portion of the casino was blocked off & due to open in a few days.  The guestroom was beautiful!  All brand new everything.  We then walked across the street to Excalibur for breakfast at Sherwood's.  It was very good.  Then back to Trop & out to the pool.  It was so nice.

We cabbed to Bally's & checked in to our usual room with the best view anywhere.  The room is a bit dated but we love that old Las Vegas feel.  For lunch it was off to Pink's at Planet Hollywood/Miracle Mile shops.  Fantastic!  We had been to Pink's before near our home but,  not his one. Went to Bally's Steakhouse for dinner right after having a great cocktail in their new bar.  Wonderful dinner as usual.

The next morning we were off to Mirage to The Secret Garden to see the very cute 7 week old white tigers!  There are also many other animals to see...Leopards,  lions etc...All very well cared for.  Then over to Imperial Palace for lunch at the new Hash House a Go-Go.  It was good...but,  a little much.  I will leave it at that.  However,  you should go at least once.  Then...BARRY concert at The Paris.  Fabulous!  We were in the 5th row...Not bad for comp tickets!  Harrah's has always been really good to us!  For dinner it was off to Planet Hollywood to Yolo's.  The food is so good there & this visit was no exception.  We ate at the bar.

The next morning we had a bite to eat at Nosh at Bally's.  We walk by it all the time & have never stopped in.  It was nice.  Then for lunch it was KGB at Harrah's.  Very good burgers with kind of a 60s Russian spy/James Bond thing going on.  Right along with a whole bunch of vodkas & slinkily dressed waitresses.  For dinner it was at Tao at Venetian.  We were seated at a wonderful table sort of in a corner on a couch.  The food was quite good.  The famous night club upstairs wasn't open that night.  It was still a big scene.

The next morning we went to Luxor to our old standby,  Pyramid Cafe.  I love their meatloaf!  Craig had a really great pizza.  Then it was off to the airport.  We managed to go to 6 new places this trip: Sherwood's, Pink's, Hash House a Go-Go, KGB, Nosh & Tao.  That's so unusual for us because we have so many favorites.

EXTRA! EXTRA!...READ ALL ABOUT IT! THIS JUST IN...

What a great picture Craig took of Times Square! It was kinda a last minute business trip & I'm not there.  But,  that's ok...Las Vegas this Friday!

SUPPLEMENT!!! San Francisco...A Blog Update By Craig!...From Before We Went

Yes, we'll be driving a rental car and leaving it at the airport. BART now zooms right from the airport to the city, so it is very easy to get from there. Parking is so expensive in S.F.  It was $50/night at our hotel, not including tax, and that was on the low side of what's available. That would mean $200 just in parking, more than the nightly room rate of the Sir Francis Drake. It kills me, the principal of the matter. So for less than a $100 plus a tank or two of gas, we are doing the scenic drive up the 101 in a rental car and leaving it there.

We decided against Highway 1 because in summertime we'd be caught behind campers and RVs, and against the 5 because, god knows, the 5 is boring.  Our plan is to get the car at 7 a.m., get Starbucks, have breakfast at Sambo's in Santa Barbara, and then pretty much drive uninterrupted to SFO so we can shower, relax, and go out for dinner. The daytime high has been 55 there—brrr.

San Francisco!

We are going to the beautiful City By The Bay in August.  It's a DRIVING trip!!!  Yes, at least partially. As you know, we're not known for that.  We are renting a car & driving up the 101/1 coast route & dropping off the same day at SFO.  Then we BART to the city!  Our stay this time is at Sir Francis Drake...A Kimpton Hotel,  right on Powell St at Union Square.  Larry & Laurel will be joining us as well.  We then fly home on the wonderful Virgin America.

Off To See Barry At The Paris Soon!

Our next trip to the desert will be in August for a nice stay at Bally's.  We're also going to see Barry Manilow!  We may also see Phantom at Venetian.  We always like to try at least 1 or 2 new restaurants while visiting.  This time it's KGB: Kerry’s Gourmet Burgers at Harrah's.  My sources tell me that there is construction at The Paris, Bill's Gamblin' Hall & also at Harrah's.  On our last trip our new restaurant was Cafe Vettro in the fabulous new Aria at the beautiful CityCenter. New as well was Tea Lounge on the 23rd floor at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.  Both were very nice.

NEXT TRIP!

We are due for another Las Vegas trip soon. Looks like July.  No show lined up yet. I do however have some nice restaurants in mind. Bouchon at Venetian, Stripburger at Fashion Show, Yolo's at Planet Hollywood & Noodle Asia also at Venetian. Of course, we can't leave out Emeril's Fish House at MGM...the best banana cream pie...anywhere! There may also be a trip to Downtown this time. Even though we've been 6 times in the last year, we still find new things to do. Relaxing out at the pool late afternoon is always nice.
